Greetings Chas. I have computed the tide level going back with some accuracy. There was a considerable tidal rush during that time frame, due in part to the spure, as we know it today being much smaller than it is today. Some 5 metre at it spring and 2.2 metre at the equinox. The scouring effect of the period would have been dramatic, cutting a deep channel and leaving a large mud bank on the lee side of the bends that would spill onto the plane at the spring tide. The bodies at Fulford would, no doubt, have been thrown into the river as facilities for burial were none existant. The bodies would have been stripped of any armour and weapons and taken to Hastings with Harolds forces. Tony
